Festival: Preservation of Culture and Tradition

 

               Every country or nation, provinces or towns, have their own way of expressing their own endeavor and mindset on any occasions or festivals. A festival is an special occasions of feasting or celebration, usually with a religious focus. Aside from religion and sometimes folklore, culture and tradition.                                                                                                                                                        

               Festivals are celebrated to make as learn the value and importance of our family, our relatives and our loved ones. There is just a different vibe on the eve of festivals… you find yourself way more happier and cheerful, you automatically start thinking about the fun you are going to have and the food you are going to eat, and the decorations which you are going to make. Everything seems perfect and blissful at the same time. Parades, decorations and tourists are roaming around during festival.               

               Festivals are really significant to be celebrated in every community in the sense that; it help us to keep connected to our roots, our culture, our values, our tradition and preserve it, not just for the generation of today, but for the next generations to come.

                The “KANNAWIDAN” Ylocos Festival is one of the significant event which the Province of Ilocos Sur celebrates this festivity. In which it will be participated by the whole province of Ilocos Sur. One of the highlights of this festival is the “Saniata ti Ilocos Sur”, in which this event held at the Quirino Stadium on the first week of February. Another highlight of this festival was the display of each town products and products which they called it as “one town one product”. The product of each town are displayed at the Tamag, Vigan City, in which each town depicts each way of expressing their support to the program of the government, especially in food production, thus different food products are displayed. Their culture and traditions are to be seen from upland municipalities like Cervantes, San Emilio, Lidlidda, Salcedo and other interior municipalities. In this event, Ilocano dishes are to be seen, clothes and others, which really amazed each and every visitor coz, even to this time, each town culture and traditions are preserve, and you can only see all of these to this “KANNAWIDAN” festival.

               The festival is held from the last week of January to the first week of February. This festival celebration really depicts the preservation of “Culture and Tradition” of the Ilocano’s, especially to the Province of Ilocos Sur. An event that each and every Ilocano, visitors, tourists from other towns and provinces be remembered and cherished forever.
